Originally nestled at the southernmost end of the Selkirk Mountains, Selkirk Mountain Engineering, PLLC. (SME) started as E3 Engineering, a sole proprietorship, in August of 2014 in response to numerous requests from contacts that were wanting help patenting and commercializing their ideas. The business was converted into a PLLC in 2020 due to higher demand. Clients have come to me primarily because I have the patent experience they seek (having worked in a patent law firm doing patent prosecution work for Fortune 100 clients) but also because of my experience as a design engineer and inventor.
The bulk of my experience comes from having worked in the electronics thermal management, data center, and telecommunications industries. As a design engineer in those industries, I have gained a wealth of hands-on experience in every aspect of the design process including product specification, conceptual design, analysis, critical design, manufacturing, testing, quality assurance, design verification, and system qualification – in both a fast-paced low-production-volume and high volume ISO9001 environments. My design specialties have been in the arena of electronics enclosures (sheet metal and machined aluminum chassis), thermal management hardware (e.g. spray modules plumbing, atomizers, heat exchangers, etc.), wire harness design, Fiber Optic panels and enclosures, I/O panel design (both fluid and electrical) and electronics mounting. I’ve written processes for ISO certification, trained engineers in tolerance stack-up analysis, and have done numerous FEA studies for seismic and mil-aero qualification. I have a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University, a Patent Agent’s license, and am a licensed Mechanical P.E. in Washington state.
